The Flickerfest Short Film Festival
The annual short film festival was held from 3rd January 2004 to 10th January, 2004 at the Bondi Pavilion. Several sessions every day, a must for short film buffs. Sessions for kids too. As usual the web site is a complete mystery, this year a small plane skywrites the slogan "Experience our world". It's quite difficult to print the actual programme. |

Bronte: Some Recent Developments.
Bronte as a beach is still much the same, but Bronte as a suburb is undergoing massive change. Recent developments include multi-level houses, and houses which present a brick wall and a roller door to the street. To judge for yourself, see these recent pictures of Bronte. |

Walter Cole Classic at Bondi Beach.
The Bondi Beach Cole Classic is a 2km "Roughwater" Swim across Bondi Beach (Bay). The Swim attracts over 2,000 recreational swimmers and was held on Sunday, 3rd February 2002. The Race is a Community Event with proceeds being donated to the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.
This annual event was started by Graham Cole in 1983 and in 1995 he handed the running of the Swim over to his 3 Sons, Walter, Christopher & Nicholas Cole. See the Cole Classic web site (fast and simple, what a pleasure compared with other mindless local disasters) for full details and the entry form. |

The Sydney Fringe Festival 2002.
Bondi Pavilion remains the traditional home of the festival, although events occur all over Sydney and some events this year have been moved from Bondi to Fox Studios. The festival ran from the 18th of January to 3rd February, 2002. See daily papers or print adverts for details. Special mention: the ever-popular nude night surfing competition is probably not being held this year. Warning (6th January 2002): The festival's web site is an enigma. Attractive and minimalist but no programme of events. This web page is a complete laugh as the programme has not been posted yet. If they can't build a web page in this day and age, who would want to go?????? Update (20th January 2002): The festival's web site now has the 2002 programme. Warning (24th Nov 2003): The Sydney Fringe Festival is no more.

Bondi Flickerfest Short Film Festival.
The annual festival of short films was held at the Bondi Pavilion from the 4th to the 12th of January, 2002. As festivals go, this was it for the short film buffs. There was even a Hitchcock Showcase. The web site is pretty useless and makes older browsers crash. Your end-of-term assignment: Try to print the 10 day Programme. Let me know how you get on. Infoline (24 hours) 9338-9644, bookings 9365-6888, office number 9365-6877. |

Country Music Reaches the Eastern Suburbs (1)
Suzy Owens has written a song about Bondi - lying on the beach at North Bondi is better than going to work. Check out my page about The Hunter and Suzy Owens Band. |

Country Music Reaches the Eastern Suburbs (2)
Well, something amazing has happened. You may have thought Country and Western music was only played west of Parramatta but think again. Mary Heard from Tamarama (the next beach south of Bondi) and her band the Midwest Obsession released their first CD titled Happy Ever After with a launch in a Newtown hotel on 4th March, 2001. Mary Heard sings far more Western than Country, with a sound straight from West Texas. None of that sickly Nashville girly stuff, and none of the local "home amongst the gum trees" neither. This is the real stuff, performed by musos who are capable and enthusiastic supporters of the genre. Kasey Chambers will be in second place once you've listened to this. The CDs are still out there, but the band went into recess late in 2002. |

The Olympic Games at Bondi Beach in the year 2000.
