Latest Stats as at 30/11/2010. ============================= These figures cover the 15-day period 1/11/2010 to 15/11/2010. ============================= =============================== Introduction ============ In these figures the gap between Windows-7 and Vista continues to widen. The previous surge in popularity for Microsoft's Bing has abated, but this is the lowest figure ever measured for Yahoo. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 1st to 15th November 2010, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- XP 43.1 (43.6, 44.7, 45.0, 45.0, 45.1, 46.2, 47.4, 46.3, 48.8, 47.4) Windows-7 19.8 (19.7, 19.5, 18.2, 18.1, 17.9, 16.4, 16.1, 14.7, 14.1) Vista 16.6 (17.0, 17.1, 17.1, 18.0, 18.3, 17.7, 17.5, 19.0, 18.9) Other Windows 2.7 (2.4, 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 2.5, 2.4, 2.7, 2.9, 2.6, 2.6) Mac 10.7 (10.6, 10.0, 10.9, 10.4, 10.2, 11.2, 10.6, 11.0, 10.4, 11.0) iPhone etc 4.1 (3.3, 3.0, 3.4, 3.1, 2.8, 2.9, 2.5, 2.7, 2.1, 1.9, 1.7) Other Mobiles 2.2 (2.4, 2.2, 2.1, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 1.9, 2.1, 2.2) Linux 0.8 (0.9, 0.8, 0.9, 1.1, 1.1, 1.0, 1.0, 1.5, 1.0, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5) The "iPhone" result includes both iPods and iPads. There were 184 iPad and 118 iPod visits, compared with 678 iPhone visits. Android phones from seven manufacturers are now appearing in the logfiles. The front runners are Samsung, SonyEricsson, HTC and Motorola. The total sample size was 24029 visits by humans. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 1st to 15th November 2010:- IE 54.4 (54.3, 55.5, 55.0, 54.0, 53.2, 53.2, 52.9, 51.7, 53.3, 52.4) FF 20.6 (21.5, 21.5, 21.5, 22.4, 24.1, 23.5, 25.0, 25.3, 25.0, 25.7) Safari 12.9 (12.0, 11.6, 12.6, 11.5, 10.9, 11.9, 11.1, 11.5, 10.3) Chrome 8.8 (8.9, 8.3, 7.7, 8.2, 7.8, 7.4, 7.3, 8.1, 7.8, 7.3, 6.9) Opera 1.8 (1.8, 1.7, 1.7, 1.9, 2.0, 1.8, 1.7, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.7) All Others 1.4 (1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 2.1, 1.9, 2.2, 2.0, 1.9, 1.9, 1.9) Previous comments repeated: Firefox is losing market share to Safari and Chrome. IE is fairly steady; my theory here is that the punters now find IE8 "good enough" and don't bother with installing Firefox like they did last year. Whilst I am clearly measuring a Firefox in decline, the president of Mozilla Europe (Mozilla runs the Firefox project) is making exaggerated claims about their market share in Europe and their future plans. Perhaps I should show him the printouts from my version of Firefox, with three lines of text replaced by white space on every printed page. The sample size was 24649 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for November 1st to 15th, 2010:- Google 91.0 (88.4, 90.2, 90.5, 90.7, 91.2, 90.0, 90.1, 89.8, 90.6) Yahoo 3.0 (3.3, 3.2, 3.3, 3.3, 3.4, 4.6, 4.5, 4.5, 3.9, 3.7, 3.7) Bing 3.4 (4.2, 2.9, 2.9, 3.2, 2.6, 3.1, 2.9, 2.8, 3.0, 2.9, 3.7) All others 2.5 (4.1, 3.7, 3.3, 2.8, 2.8, 2.3, 2.5, 2.9, 2.4, 2.5) A strange reversal this fortnight. Google has bounced back after a dip, but now we have the lowest figure ever measured for Yahoo. It's likely that Bing will remain ahead of Yahoo from now on. This time last year I was writing how the combined Yahoo/Bing market share had slipped to under 10%. Soon it will be under 6%. The sample size above was 16594 searches. =============================== ================================ Trivia corner ============= This fortnight there was a huge surge in traffic from The Netherlands with around 1200 people looking at a picture of a chimpanzee smoking. The peak was on the 8th November with over 750 hits in three hours. The computers used to create this surge have been analysed: Operating System: XP 30%, Windows-7 37%, Vista 20%, Other Windows 2%, Mac 6%, Linux 3%, iPhones 1% and Other Mobiles 1%. Browser: Internet Explorer 40%, Firefox 38%, Chrome 16%, Safari 5%, and Opera plus Others 2%. Interesting figures. The group are "early adopters" of Windows-7, but not very supportive of Mac or mobile phones. Big support for the Chrome and Firefox browsers. ==================== ================= =======================
