Latest Stats as at 9/6/2012. ============================ These figures cover the 16-day period 16/5/2012 to 31/5/2012. No big upheavals in this report. Instead, some details on differences between countries and the Android surge. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 16th to 31st May, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 32.9 (32.7, 34.4, 32.3, 34.3, 34.7, 33.7, 32.1) XP 26.2 (24.6, 25.0, 19.7, 23.7, 23.9, 24.5, 25.9, 25.6) Vista 6.6 (6.6, 6.4, 7.7, 7.4, 7.3, 7.5, 7.6, 8.2, 8.3) Pre-XP Windows 1.0 (0.8, 1.0, 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.2, 1.4) Mac 11.4 (12.1, 11.4, 12.6, 12.5, 12.4, 12.3, 12.5, 11.6) iPhone etc 15.5 (16.0, 15.8, 19.4, 14.4, 13.9, 14.1) Android 2.9 (3.3, 3.0, 3.4, 2.9, 2.7, 2.8, 2.6, 2.7, 3.0) Other Mobiles 2.7 (2.9, 2.4, 2.9, 2.9, 3.0, 3.3, 3.5, 3.2) Linux 0.8 (0.8, 0.6, 1.1, 0.8, 0.8, 1.0, 0.8, 0.8, 0.8) The supposed surge of Android phones is not happening. I am seeing about 2% visits via Android phones from around the world. Exceptions are the UK which is a litle higher than 2%, the USA on 4% and Europe about 3.5%. Claims are being made of massive Android uptake (phones and tablets), especially in the USA. I don't see any truth in these claims at all, not compared with iPhones and especially iPads. These portable Apple products are 21% of visits for USA surfers as measured in Australia. There is an excess of Windows XP visits coming from China but it has not been possible to identify these visits as malicious. In all other regions and major countries of the world Windows 7 is ahead of Windows XP. A few visits from Windows Mobile are now being seen. The result is currently about 5% of the total Android figure. However visits from Nokia phones continue to fall and Windows Mobile has not yet saved them. Watch out for special deals from Vodafone. The total sample size above was 18340. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 16th to 31st May 2012:- IE 36.7 (35.4, 36.2, 30.3, 36.1, 36.7, 34.8, 35.8, 35.5) Safari 23.7 (24.8, 24.1, 28.3, 23.7, 23.1, 23.3, 25.1) Chrome 21.2 (21.1, 20.7, 21.5, 20.8, 21.0, 20.9, 18.1) FF 14.5 (15.1, 15.6, 16.2, 15.7, 15.5, 17.0, 16.4, 17.0) Opera 2.3 (1.9, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2, 2.2, 2.2, 2.4, 2.2, 1.9) All Others 1.6 (1.8, 1.4, 1.9, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 2.2, 2.2) No comments, other than to observe the trend for Firefox. The sample size was 18523 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for May 16th to 31st, 2012:- Google 90.8 (88.6, 89.0, 90.2, 89.7, 90.2, 90.6, 91.0) Bing 2.9 (3.6, 3.5, 3.2, 3.8, 3.6, 3.3, 3.2, 3.0, 2.7) Yahoo 3.0 (3.1, 3.5, 3.3, 3.4, 3.2, 3.1, 2.9, 2.8, 2.7) All others 3.4 (4.8, 3.9, 3.3, 3.1, 3.0, 2.9, 3.0, 2.9) About 15% of searches coming via Google now contain no search string. Packages such as AWStats translate this to say "not provided" as the search string. When these searches are counted there is no decline in Google. Above, the Google figure is given at 90.8. In fact the USA figure is 85%. At 84% Asia is a bit of a problem on two fronts. Firstly, Yahoo is popular in places such as Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Secondly in mainland China there is only about 3% Google - the government search engine Baidu has 96%. All other regions of the world are over 90% Google with Australia on 95%. The number of searches in the sample was 12381. This includes 1686 "not provided" searches via Google. ================================ ===============================
