Latest Stats as at 7/6/2011. ============================= These figures cover the 16-day period 16/5/2011 to 31/5/2011. ================================ ============================ Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 16th to 31st May 2011, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- XP 37.4 (37.3, 37.4, 39.2, 40.0, 38.9, 39.9, 39.3, 38.2 ,38.2) Windows-7 28.2 (26.4, 25.8, 26.9, 25.7, 24.8, 23.0, 22.5, 22.0) Vista 12.1 (12.4, 13.6, 13.2, 13.4, 13.6, 13.9, 15.5, 15.5, 15.9) Other Windows 2.0 (1.7, 1.9, 1.7, 1.7, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9, 2.3, 2.0) Mac 10.3 (11.5, 11.1, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.2, 10.6, 10.4) iPhone etc 4.9 (5.5, 5.5, 4.8, 5.1, 5.5, 5.4, 5.9, 6.3, 6.4, 4.2) Android 1.1 (1.1, 1.0, 0.8, 0.8, earlier share in Other Mobiles) Other Mobiles 3.0 (3.0, 2.9, 2.2, 2.3, 4.1, 4.4, 4.1, 4.2, 3.7) Linux 1.0 (1.0, 0.8, 0.8, 0.6, 0.8, 0.9, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 0.8) The above figures combine several trends namely the gradual decline of Windows XP, the failure of Vista, the rise and acceptance of Windows 7, the failure of Linux on the Desktop to gain traction, and lastly the rise of smartphones mainly iPhones and the Android. The support for Apple products is especially strong in Australia. But suddenly there might be a new player. Results for a new flavour of Linux running Chrome as the browser with an add-in called Google Web Preview have not been included above but have jumped from nothing to 0.5% in two weeks. Google's new Chrome O/S is due for release on June 17th. Given the absence of searches from these visits and most hits coming from the USA, something odd is going on, possibly extensive testing by Google. More on this next time. Many thanks to Gerry Patterson for confirming these surges. Watch the press for articles on the Chrome O/S and the Chrome browser, both from Google. Chrome O/S is a flavour of Linux and Google releases their open source code as the Chromium operating system. Meanwhile the press have reported a predicted profit drop for Nokia. This company has great hardware, but people wanting a smartphone are buying Androids or iPhones. It's a fierce marketplace out there, and Nokia may well be a basket case before their Windows Mobile phone is available around Christmas. Note the extensive local advertising, especially Vodafone mobile network coupled with Nokia handsets. A network beleagured with thousands of complaints plus a phone that ranks third. The total sample size above was 18588 visits by humans. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 16th to 31st May 2011:- IE 50.1 (47.8, 49.1, 52.4, 49.5, 48.3, 48.0, 47.2, 48.9, 45.2, 52.1) FF 19.0 (20.2, 20.5, 19.8, 20.6, 20.9, 22.4, 22.2, 21.1, 24.2, 22.2) Safari 13.4 (15.4, 15.1, 13.9, 14.5, 14.6, 13.4, 14.2, 15.1, 14.7) Chrome 13.6 (12.8, 11.7, 10.9, 11.5, 11.5, 10.5, 11.7, 10.5, 10.3) Opera 2.0 (1.8, 1.8, 1.4, 2.2, 2.3, 2.7, 2.1, 1.7, 2.0, 1.7, 2.0) All Others 1.8 (1.9, 2.0, 1.8, 1.6, 1.7, 2.3, 3.0, 2.6, 2.6) The sample size was 18805 visits by humans. Chrome is ahead of Safari this fortnight. The latest result for the Chrome browser does not include the visits that might be from the new Chrome O/S from Google. IE has increased and this probably relates to the increase in Windows 7 as the O/S. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for May 16th to 31st, 2011:- Google 91.8 (90.9, 90.5, 89.5, 90.2, 91.4, 90.6, 89.7, 89.9) Bing 3.2 (3.2, 3.4, 4.3, 4.1, 3.5, 3.2, 4.0, 4.3, 3.3, 3.2, 4.0) Yahoo 2.5 (2.8, 3.1, 3.2, 3.1, 2.7, 3.2, 3.4, 3.4, 3.6, 4.1, 4.0) All others 2.5 (3.1, 3.0, 2.9, 2.5, 2.4, 2.8, 2.9, 2.5, 3.3, 2.8) Here we have the highest figure ever seen for Google (and it looks a bit high) plus the lowest figure ever seen for Yahoo. Without continuous advertising, Bing has settled back to less than 3.5%. It measures higher in America but lower in Europe. The sample size above was 12999 searches. ================================ ===============================
