Latest Stats as at 3/3/2013 ============================= These figures cover the 14-day period 15/2/2013 to 28/2/2013. Not a lot to write about. Windows-7 remains the most popular Operating System. These figures measure Chrome as the most popular browser. Neither Windows-8 nor the Winphone are taking the world by storm; it's a slow steady uptake. Be sceptical of new Operating System announcements for example from Google and from Ubuntu. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 15th to 28th of February, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 35.2 (35.1,34.1, 32.0, 32.1, 35.3, 36.3, 36.2) XP 17.7 (18.5, 16.9, 14.2, 14.2, 17.2, 16.0, 16.5, 17.2) Vista 4.1 (4.5, 4.4, 4.7, 4.5, 5.3, 5.3, 5.2, 5.1, 5.2) Windows-8 2.4 (2.2, 1.9, 1.7, 1.3, 0.8, 0.9, 0.3, 0.1) Pre-XP Windows 0.8 (0.8, 1.1, 1.2, 1.0, 1.0, 0.7, 0.6) Mac 12.3 (12.3, 13.2, 11.8, 11.9, 12.4, 13.0, 12.5, 12.8) iPhone/iPad/iPod 20.0 (19.0, 19.8, 25.2, 24.7, 19.8, 20.5) Android 4.6 (5.5, 5.5, 5.8, 6.6, 4.8, 4.5, 4.6, 4.6, 4.2) WinPhone 0.2 (0.4, 0.2, 0.3. 0.3, 0.2) Other Mobiles 2.0 (2.1, 2.3, 2.3, 2.4, 2.3, 1.8, 2.4, 2.0) Linux 0.8 (0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 0.8, 0.7) Nothing to report. It's surprisingly stable over recent times. Windows-8 has gone from 0.1% to 2.4% in 16 weeks and I suggest this is simply the sales of new PCs rather than a rush to upgrade to the very latest. Keep a lookout for articles saying tablets are replacing the desktop. The total sample size above was 18458. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 15th to 28th February 2013:- Chrome 30.9 (30.2, 28.6, 26.4, 27.2, 28.5, 27.5, 27.2) Safari 27.8 (27.1, 29.2, 33.6, 33.3, 28.6, 29.9, 30.2) IE 26.3 (26.6, 25.9, 23.8, 21.4, 25.2, 26.2, 26.8, 27.2) Firefox 10.8 (11.9, 11.6, 12.3, 13.6, 14.1, 12.8, 12.2) Opera 2.3 (2.4, 2.4, 2.0, 2.5, 2.1, 2.1, 2.1, 1.8, 2.3) All Others 1.9 (1.8, 2.4, 1.9, 2.1, 1.6, 1.5, 1.5, 1.4) Chrome remains ahead of Safari, with Internet Explorer in third place. Think tablet computers. Think Chrome as the preferred browser on a Windows laptop. Chrome's share is Win-XP 34%, Windows-7 45% and Windows-8 56%. The sample size was 18544 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for February 15th to 28th, 2013:- Google 87.8 (87.0, 86.7, 86.4, 84.3, 89.9, 89.2, 89.4) Bing 5.4 (5.1, 5.6, 5.3, 5.5, 2.7, 3.3, 3.5, 3.3, 2.8) Yahoo 3.8 (4.4, 4.0, 4.8, 5.4, 4.0, 4.2, 3.9, 4.1, 3.4) All others 2.9 (3.5, 3.7, 3.5, 4.7, 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.1) Bing remains at over 5% market share. Amazing. The "All others" figure has dropped a little, but mainly due to the exclusion of rubbish searches coming from Baidu, the Chinese search engine. Baidu is the 4th largest search engine, ahead of old favourites such as Ask and newcomers such as Blekko and Babylon. It has a history of weird behaviour, often sending visitors with irrelevant or faulty search strings. Behind the scenes, a seemingly good month-after-month result for the AVG search engine is entirely undeserved. If you use the free AVG anti-virus with the default settings, it takes you directly to the main AVG search engine page whenever your browser fails to find the wanted page - extremely confusing, just them trying to make money. The total number of searches in this sample was 11350, including 3802 of 9977 searches (38%) via Google where the search string was suppressed allegedly for privacy reasons. This suppression (or use of "secure search") varies across browsers - Firefox is 67%, Chrome 51%, Internet Explorer 22% and Safari 17%. =============================== ============================
