Latest Stats as at 18/2/2011. ============================= These figures cover the 15-day period 1/2/2011 to 15/2/2011. ============================= =============================== Introduction ============ This month the mobile share of the market measures 9.8%. This is a slight drop from last month; as said previously the holiday season has passed and visits have declined about 10%. The Android is now a clear second after the iPhone for the mobile phone operating system. The shock news this fortnight is that Nokia have given up on their open source operating system called Meego and instead will have Windows on their mobile phones, probably by Christmas. I have taken this opportunity to review all the processing that affects either Windows on mobile phones or the operating systems used by Nokia. The intention is to have accurate starting-point figures to measure the future market share of Nokia phones running Windows. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 1st to 15th February 2011, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- XP 39.9 (39.3, 38.2 ,38.2, 41.7, 42.5, 43.1, 43.6, 44.7, 45.0, 45.0) Windows-7 23.0 (22.5, 22.0, 22.6, 21.5, 21.2, 19.8, 19.7, 19.5, 18.2) Vista 13.9 (15.5, 15.5, 15.9, 15.9, 16.6, 16.6, 17.0, 17.1, 17.1) Other Windows 1.8 (1.9, 2.3, 2.0, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7, 2.4, 2.5, 2.4, 2.3) Mac 10.7 (10.2, 10.6, 10.4, 10.6, 10.1, 10.7, 10.6, 10.0, 10.9, 10.4) iPhone etc 5.4 (5.9, 6.3, 6.4, 4.2, 3.7, 4.1, 3.3, 3.0, 3.4, 3.1, 2.8) Other Mobiles 4.4 (4.1, 4.2, 3.7, 2.7, 2.4, 2.2, 2.4, 2.2, 2.1, 2.0) Linux 0.9 (0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 0.8, 0.9, 0.8, 0.9, 1.1, 1.1, 1.0, 1.0) A slight increase in XP and Windows-7 whilst Vista declines. The Other Windows category is now clearly under 2.0%. Linux has risen slightly to measure 0.9%. The "iPhone" result includes both iPads and iPods. There were 226 iPad and 156 iPod visits, compared with 754 iPhone visits. The Android visits were 250, way ahead of the Blackberry on 160 visits and Nokia/Symbian on 134. This Android tally has been checked and appears to be correct. Current results show just 15 visits from mobiles running either Windows or using a mobile flavour of Internet Explorer. The total sample size was 21044 visits by humans. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 1st to 15th February 2011:- IE 48.0 (47.2, 48.9, 45.2, 52.1, 51.7, 54.4, 54.3, 55.5, 55.0, 54.0) FF 22.4 (22.2, 21.1, 24.2, 22.2, 23.2, 20.6, 21.5, 21.5, 21.5, 22.4) Safari 13.4 (14.2, 15.1, 14.7, 12.6, 12.3, 12.9, 12.0, 11.6, 12.6) Chrome 10.5 (11.7, 10.5, 10.3, 9.5, 9.0, 8.8, 8.9, 8.3, 7.7, 8.2, 7.8) Opera 2.7 (2.1, 1.7, 2.0, 1.7, 2.0, 1.8, 1.8, 1.7, 1.7, 1.9, 2.0, 1.8) All Others 3.0 (2.6, 2.6, 3.5, 2.1, 1.8, 1.4, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 2.1, 1.9) A slight drop for Chrome since the last measurement. Correction of a small programming error has moved 0.2% market share off Safari and across to Others. The long term trends seem to be an increase for Opera and an increase for the "Others" category, and of course the gradual decline of IE, caused mainly by its losses to Chrome on the desktop and virtually no users from mobile phones. The sample size was 21718 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for February 1st to 15th, 2011:- Google 89.7 (89.9, 89.8, 89.9, 89.1, 90.7, 91.0, 88.4, 90.2, 90.5) Bing 4.0 (4.3, 3.3, 3.2, 4.0, 3.8, 4.2, 2.9, 2.9, 3.2, 2.6, 3.1, 2.9) Yahoo 3.4 (3.4, 3.6, 4.1, 4.0, 3.1, 3.0, 3.3, 3.2, 3.3, 3.3, 3.4, 4.6) All others 2.9 (2.5, 3.3, 2.8, 2.9, 2.4, 4.1, 3.7, 3.3, 2.8, 2.8, 2.3) Google remains dominant. The sample size above was 13168 searches. ================================ ================================ Trivia Corner Quarterly results ================= Quarterly results since mid-2008 are tabluated at http://www.bondivillage.com/techo/logstats/quarters.htm Bing ==== For some wacky bedtime reading, try the Bing press releases. They claim Bing's search results are better quality than Google's. Would you measure this finding the same way as they do? A simpler explanation might be their users are more stupid. ================================ ================================
