Latest Stats as at 14/2/2014 ============================ These figures cover January 2014. These statistics will now be published once a month, rather than twice a month as previously. There were big problems with the stats for November and December 2013. Windows 8.1 appeared from late October, but using a different agent string from Windows 8.0. Hence my figures for November and December 2013 underestimated Windows 8 and slightly overestimated everything else. I have not yet recalculated correct figures, and instead have decided to start from scratch for 2014. All of the figures given below refer to the percentage of visits, not hits or bytes. The visits are made by humans, not robots, crawlers or criminals pretending to be normal surfers. The first percentage is for the 16th to 31st January 2014, with the first 15 days of January shown in brackets. Operating System Market Share ============================== Windows-7 27.1 (25.7) XP 6.8 (6.9) Windows-8 5.4 (5.2) Vista 2.3 (2.3) Pre-XP Windows 0.5 (0.5) Mac 8.8 (8.6) iPhone/iPad/iPod 32.6 (34.1) Android 14.0 (14.1) WinPhone 0.3 (0.4) Other Mobiles 1.2 (1.3) Linux 1.0 (0.9) The highest percentages ever recorded for Androids and the success of the iPhone continues. Windows 8 continues to be unpopular, after a whole year. Microsoft has announced Windows 8.1 which includes an option to display the startup menu that everybody wants. How could they get it so wrong, it's Vista all over again. This week they have announced that the Windows 8.1 option for a normal start menu will actually be the default. It's hard not to laugh. There are still problems with excessive Pre-XP and Linux visits. The visits look real but they are not. Everytime there is a surge in Linux visits, there is some explanation regarding nosey criminals. Desktops/Laptops 51% and Mobiles/Tablets 49%. Just looking around, I notice mobile phones such as the Samsung Galaxy are getting larger not smaller. The total sample sizes above were 27919 and 27873. Browser Breakup =============== Safari 37.9 (39.6) Chrome 33.0 (31.9) IE 15.0 (15.4) Firefox 10.6 (9.4) Opera 1.4 (1.4) All Others 2.1 (2.3) The sample sizes were 27919 and 27400 visits by humans. The sample sizes above were 14250 and 13767 visits by humans. Browser Breakup for Mobiles/Tablets =================================== Safari 68.4 (69.2) Chrome 28.1 (27.4) Opera 1.6 (1.3) IE 0.6 (0.8) Firefox 0.2 (0.1) All Others 1.1 (1.2) I'm not sure how the Mozilla Foundation has the courage to launch an operating system named Firefox for mobile phones and tablets, when their browser of the same name has been ignored on these platforms. The sample sizes above were 13288 and 13526 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Google 84.0 (85.1) Bing 10.9 (8.9) Yahoo 3.1 (4.1) All others 2.0 (1.9) Bing has passed 10%, and Google is slowly drifting downwards. The total searches in these samples were 13471 and 14611. Results from Google include 76% of the search strings now encrypted, making analysis of popular searches more difficult. Search strings via Bing and Yahoo are not encrypted. =============================== ============================
