Latest Stats as at 6/2/2010. ============================ These figures cover the 16-day period 16/1/2010 to 31/1/2010. Operating System Market Share ============================== For period 16th to 31st January 2010, these percentage figures are based on visits, with some earlier figures in brackets:- XP 49.4 (was 49.9, 50.4, 54.7, 54.8, 56.1, 56.3, 57.1, 57.6, 58.3) Vista 24.1 (was 24.3, 24.6, 23.4, 24.8, 25.1, 25.8, 25.5, 25.4) Windows-7 7.3 (was 6.1, 5.3, 4.2, 3.4, 2.8, 1.9, 1.5, 1.2, 1.1) Other Windows 4.0 (was 3.5, 3.9, 3.9, 3.2, 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.4) Mac 10.1 (was 10.6, 10.1, 9.6, 9.5, 9.2, 9.2, 8.7, 8.7, 8.0, 8.5) iPhone 2.0 (was 2.1, 2.3, 1.4, 1.4, 1,3, 1.1, 0.9) Other Mobiles 1.6 (was 2.0, 1.9, 1.5, 1.5, 1.3, 1.2, 1.6) Linux 1.5 (was 1.5, 1.6, 1.3, 1.3, 1.2, 1.4, 1.2, 1.2, 1.2, 1.2) Windows XP is again under the 50% point. Windows 7 has increased markedly and should pass Vista before the end of the year. A prediction for early 2011 would be XP 33%, Vista 17%, Windows-7 27% and Other Windows 3%. The total Windows share is currently just under 85%, compared with 93% in July 2008 and 94% in 2002. If there is a boom in mobile devices, then the share for visits from Windows machines will drop below 80% during 2011. The result of 2.0% for the iPhone given above includes one visit from an iPod but the new iPad has not been sighted yet. The total sample size was 17117 visits by humans. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 16th to 31st January 2010:- IE 56.1 (was 57.0, 55.7, 60.0, 59.9, 60.0, 60.6, 60.6, 60.6, 62.0) FF 25.3 (was 24.4, 25.1, 24.1, 24.5, 24.8, 24.6, 24.7, 25.7, 24.2) Safari 9.7 (was 10.2, 10.5, 8.6, 8.4, 8.1, 8.0, 7.7, 7.7, 7.2) Chrome 5.1 (was 4.6, 5.1, 3.9, 3.9, 4.0, 3.2, 3.5, 2.8, 3.3, 2.6) Opera 1.5 (was 1.6, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.5, 1.9, 1.9, 1.7, 1.9, 1.9) All Others 2.3 (was 2.1, 2.2, 1.8, 1.7, 1.5, 1.7, 1.6, 1.5, 1.4) Whilst Firefox remains fairly steady at around 24% or 25%, IE continues to fall slowly with Safari and Chrome reaping the benefit over the last few months. The dominant version of Firefox is 3.5 but 3.6 is now available and 3.8 is seen occasionally. However, more people still surf the net with Firefox 2.0 than with Firefox 3.6. You would have to worry about Firefox 3.6 when their features page on the web commences with "Bringing together all kinds of awesomeness to make browsing better for you" and states "Make your browser as efficient as you can imagine". The total sample size was 17001 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for January 16th to 31st, 2010:- Google 89.5 (was 88.1, 89.5, 88.0, 88.4, 87.7, 87.6, 87.5, 88.5) Yahoo 4.8 (was 5.9, 5.1, 4.6, 5.5, 5.8, 6.1, 6.1, 5.8, 5.3, 6.3) Microsoft 2.7 (was 3.0, 2.8, 4.0, 3.3, 3.9, 3.4, 3.5, 2.8, 2.3) All others 3.0 (was 2.9, 2.6, 3.3, 2.8, 2.6, 2.9, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0) The decline of Yahoo continues with a bad result, under 5.0%. It must be getting quieter by the minute in their server room. Microsoft's Bing has declined slightly and is below the "others" category. The total for Yahoo plus Bing is under 10% of Google. Perhaps these figures show that the skirmish Google versus China is good for business. I have not met anyone on the China side. Something is going on, as the number of referrals from Baidu, the Chinese search engine, has dropped drastically in recent months. Surely Bondi Beach is not taboo? The sample size here was 13384. When people are searching for details about an event, it's usually in the two weeks just before it happens. Interest falls away rapidly after an event has taken place. ============================ =============================
